Birthdays are an important time on our lives. These milestone moments give us a chance to reflect on how far we’ve come, and how much we’ve grown. However, when we reach a certain point in our lives, there will be a time when our parents stop planning our parties for us.
The good news? If you have the knack for party planning, you can always take over as the go-to event coordinator for your best friend. Make sure that they get the dream party that they’ve always wanted by using a few of the top tips below to blow them away – no matter their age.
1. Make Your Friendship the Theme
Choosing a theme for a birthday party can be tough – so why not focus on your friendship, and how much you care about your pal instead? Think about the things that you like doing together the most and use that to plan your activities for the day. Alternatively, you could consider taking a trip down memory lane. Can you remember the way you used to spend your weekends at the bowling alley years ago? A bowling themed party could be an amazing blast from the past.
Taking what you know about your friendship and the meaningful moments that you’ve spent together and embedding them into your party plans could be the best way to make your friend feel extra special.
2. Choose the Perfect Present
A party isn’t the only way to make a friend feel special. If you’re having a hard time planning the ideal event, or you have a friend that isn’t much of a party animal, you might prefer to focus on the gift instead. The most important thing to remember here is that it doesn’t matter how much you spend. The thought is what matters most.
Create a list of all the things that you know your friend absolutely loves. This should give you a good basis to start searching for a gift from. If you can combine a few different categories together into a gift, that’s even better. For instance, maybe you could pay for a daytrip for both of you to see a museum, combining your friend’s love for travel and history.
3. Keep it Simple
Unless you happen to be a millionaire, your friend probably won’t be expecting the biggest party they’ve ever seen. It’s best to keep things simple, as this will stop your pal from feeling as though they owe you, or they need to top your celebration with one of their own when your party rolls around.
Think about the things that you and your friends like to do together. If you can get other pals involved in the planning process, you’ll find that this makes the whole thing a bunch easier. You might find that something simple, like a picnic at the park with the people your friend loves the most is more valuable to him or her than the most expensive extravaganza you could afford.
4. Document the Experience
If you really want your friend’s birthday to be a memorable occasion – why not make the effort to document everything? In today’s age of smartphones, you don’t need a professional photographer to keep track of the day for you. Instead, you can simply bring your smartphone along and create a hashtag on Instagram for all the pictures you’re going to post of the big day.
Invite other pals joining in on the celebration to tag their own photos too. By the time the night is over, your friend will have a portfolio full of great photos to look back on when they want to take a trip down memory lane.
5. Make it a Surprise
Finally, if you’re really struggling for a good idea to celebrate your friend’s birthday, why not stick with a classic? A surprise party is a fantastic way to have some fun with your friend’s pals and family members, while showing you how much you care.
You don’t need to do much to make a surprise party a success. Work together with all the people involved in the celebration to keep it hush, and make sure that you have plenty of access to food and tunes on the day. The surprise will give the event an extra special touch, and your friend will spend so much time chatting with the people who attend that you won’t need to worry about planning any extra activities.
