As we entered into February, I had my whole schedule for the month planned out. I admit I was pumped up and ready to hit February running. However, life happened and I find myself already behind and its just the third day in! Imagine going to bed happy with life, your heart is full, and you look forward to what the next day will bring. After what you thought was a good night’s sleep, you wake up to only have an excruciating pain coming from your head. Friends, this happens to me at least once a month, and it’s known by nothing other than an MIGRAINE! Ugh, just the thought of saying it makes my head hurt a bit. When I am struck with a migraine, it lasts anywhere from 12-24 hours, and I’m usually left sick in bed. I can’t have the light on, and I can’t be bothered, which is tough since I have kids and a husband at home.
There are so many things I’m missing when I am hit with a migraine. One of the things that eats away at me most is the fact that I’m missing out on time with my kids. I can’t get that time back, and I think it can be hard for them to understand what’s going on in their mom’s head. All I can try to do is explain what’s going on and why I disappear for a while.
Of course, maybe when they are older, they will understand that a migraine is more than just a headache. Some people that suffer from migraines often experience multiple symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and even sensitivity to light. I was shocked to learn that nearly 36 million Americans suffer from migraines and their related characteristics. About 18% of American women and 6% of American men suffer with migraines, and they can last anywhere from 4-72 hours, sometimes longer.

Migraines have impacted my life in a negative way and according to statistics, I’m not alone. I look forward to the day where my life is no longer impacted by a migraine. I look forward to waking up and not being blindsided by something I cannot control.
