Did you know that roughly 1 in 5 adults in the United States suffers from allergies. So, if you or your spouse has allergies, the likelihood of your children having them is 33 percent. If you and your spouse both have them, your children have a 70 percent chance of having allergies, as well. Allergies can also lead to asthma if not treated properly. Luckily, there are many options for allergies and asthma that don’t include medication, keep reading to see ideas and tips that are helping my family.
Prevention:
The best treatment is prevention. If you know what is causing the allergies, limit your child’s exposure to that substance as much as possible.
Wash clothing that has been outside:
If your child suffers from pollen allergies, have them take off any clothing that has been outside, take a shower, and change into something clean. This will help remove the pollen from your home and keep as much of it off of your child as possible.
Don’t smoke around your child:
if you are a smoker, don’t smoke around your child or hold them without washing your hands after you have smoked. Even if your child is not an allergy or asthma sufferer, studies have shown that being exposed to second-hand smoke can cause these issues in children. If they do suffer from allergies and/or asthma, the second-hand smoke can aggravate the symptoms and make them much worse.
Invest in an air purifier for your home:
I highly recommend the Holmes® Smart Air Purifier! I recently had a chance to review this unit and must say that I’m recommending it to everyone I know, especially people that suffer from allergies like myself! I must admit I was amazed how much of a difference I could tell just within a couple of days using this unit! The pollen in GA is out full force so this was truly proved to me why I feel everyone should have this air purifier.

The Holmes® Smart Air Purifier operates quietly in the background to help reduce common household odors and allergens while providing relief from irritants in the air. The best part is the True HEPA filtration captures up to 99.97% of airborne particles such as pollen, dust, mold, pet dander, and smoke! Another great thing that makes this one of the best on the market is that you can control it from your smart phone, with the WeMo® app! So now I can control the speed, create a schedule, turn on the ionizer, and get readings on filter life right on my iPhone! Plus the app will notify me when air quality is poor and when it’s time to change your filter. So no more, guess work!

I was shocked that the setup was as easy as it was! I just plugged into the outlet I wanted to use and downloaded the free WeMo® app on my iPhone. The great part about this app is you are always connected to your Holmes® Smart Air Purifier anywhere as long as you are connected to Wi-Fi or data on your smart phone! I love the fact that I can create a schedule that works for us so the unit can turn on, turn off, or change speeds, while ensuring that our home is always getting the type of air purification it needs.

Breathing techniques:
If your child suffers from asthma, they need to know breathing techniques that can help save their lives in the event of an asthma attack. Don’t just use these during an attack, however. Have your child learn good breathing techniques and practice them at least three times a day. This can help ward off asthma attacks, help them breathe better while dealing with allergies, and will help keep them calm should they have an asthma attack. They will know what to do and can do it immediately, which can save their life.
Skin creams:
Some allergies manifest as rashes. Use aloe vera or a natural skin cream to help ease the itch that comes with these rashes.
Steaming treatments:
For kids, the best steaming treatment is to boil water with a few drops of mint or eucalyptus oil, pour the mixture into a bowl, and have your child sit next to it. The steam will help them breathe easier. This can also be used for adults in a shower form.
