For most of the year, your outdoor space is your own private sanctuary. The perfect way to start the day with breakfast in the sun, a place to spend time with the family or your evening retreat to relax and unwind, glass of wine in hand.
On certain occasions though, your backyard turns into a showcase of your hostess talents, and whether it’s having your girlfriends around for a dinner, or a big summer BBQ, there are times when you want to impress. Here are just a few ways that you can make your next outdoor party the one everyone is talking about.
Think of a Theme
Themes are a great way of adding fun and the wow factor to your outdoor party, and best of all, it doesn’t have to break the bank. This is the perfect opportunity to get creative with what you serve, but it all depends on the party.
If it’s a sophisticated summer dinner party, why not keep your eye out for a simple punchbowl set that you can make a feature of. With plenty of crushed ice and fruit to adorn it, you’ve just made the perfect centerpiece. For a summer BBQ with all the friends and family, why not invest in some cool cactus margarita glasses or coconut cups for your tropical cocktails.
Hire Help
I know some people are already frowning at this…but just listen! We all know parties are meant to be fun and enjoyable. However, when you’re the one responsible of planning, the cooking, the hosting, the serving and then clean up, it starts becoming stressful and more of a job! That’s why I hire the pros for my big events. Yes, I hire a Catering service! I’ll be the first to admit I can’t and don’t want to do it all! I’d rather have a nice time with friends instead of stressing over the food!
Not only does it save time; It actually saves you money in the long run! Let’s face it; we usually over buy and over spend on stuff we really don’t need or will only use that one time. With catering the company already has the supplies, able to buy food at a lower cost, and set up and take down everything! Some companies will even include decorations, tables and chairs for your event! I promise you will thank me later, after your next event is a hit and stress free!
Be the Supermom
It’s important not to forget the kids at a party, as they can often feel a little left out while all the grown-ups have the fun. Why not create an entertainment space just for them? In the hotter months, rent a paddling pool and some water toys for them to have to themselves, while you and your friends enjoy a relaxing day and fun conversations! If you have little ones, and you don’t have the outside room, creating a space just for them inside is just as good in their eyes. Turn one of your rooms into a designated fort area with treats and snacks.
Turn the Lights Up
Usually when the light starts to fade that’s the end of the party, so stand out as being the one who keeps the vibe going by picking out some stylish outdoor lighting. These can be candle-effect LEDs scattered throughout your patio for a romantic feel, short standing lamps that light the way up your garden path, or some outdoor heated lamps and a wood-burning stove to create a festive cheer during colder seasons.
