Many people cite their family and friendships as being the most important factor in their lives. But what is it about having solid family and friendships that contribute to a healthy lifestyle? How can you maintain family and friendships even when your life is stressful?
Having Someone to Relate to
Life and work can often seem cold and impersonal. By having friends and family members to confide in, you can rationalize the daily routine in your life and what it means. Your family and friends can often put your concerns and problems into context to see what it currently means to you, while it may be difficult for you to take an independent observation when you are so emotionally invested in your life.
Being able to talk out your issues and problems cannot be understated in importance as we are social animals and need relationships to help to make us happy.
Family and Friendships in Work
Having individuals at work who you consider friends can also provide advances to your career by recommending you for advancing or supporting you within your job. In addition, they can provide an emotional outlet for concerns and problems that you face at work. Or, of course, they can simply listen to you while you make fun of the boss!
Keep Your Family and Friendship at the Top of Your List of Priorities
By keeping your family and friendships at the top of your list of priorities you will be able to see the importance of them above all of the stress and anxiety in your life. Even when your family members or friends become angry and nasty towards you due to some stressful even in their life, keep in mind that your relationship with them is above any anger or distress that they are currently causing in your life. It may be difficult to swallow your pride at times, but realize that these are relationships that define your life and make you happy above and beyond anything else so you should do whatever you can to keep them happy and positive.
Having detailed the importance of family and friendships, there are some friends whose lives change so dramatically that you are better off removing them from your life and moving on with new friends. Often this is due to certain crisis in their lives that change their outlook and personality in a drastically negative way. Consider removing friends who are causing harm to themselves and to you. Sometimes the added stress is simply not worthwhile.
