Natural disasters happen somewhere every day. Regardless of where you live, it isn’t a matter of “if” a natural disaster is going to happen to your area, but “when” it is going to happen to your area. You can never have too much emergency preparedness and you can never start preparing for an emergency too soon. Here are three essentials you should include in your emergency preparedness kit.
Food for Emergencies
In case of a natural disaster, you should have food insurance. This means that you should have enough food and clean water to last you for a couple weeks after the disaster or emergency until there are other solutions put into place. Few people have extra food that they can use in case of an emergency because they are not dehydrated or dried. As a result, they won’t last very long and they often get thrown out of the emergency food storage pantry and never replaced. Freeze dried foods and dehydrated foods will last for years and they are inexpensive as well. These are vital for survival in case an emergency happens where you live.
Full Tank of Gas
To be prepared for an emergency, you should keep your car’s gas tank full. You don’t want to be stuck at home or at work or somewhere else without any gas in your tank during an emergency. And depending on the type of emergency or disaster, your local gas stations may not be operable or they could be rationing the gas per person. A full tank of gas will likely hold you over until things settle down following an emergency.
Outdoor Cooking Supplies
If an earthquake or other disaster happens where you live, your stove, oven and microwave oven may become inoperable or dangerous to use. That’s why you should have about 40 pounds of charcoal on hand with matches and lighter fluid so you can cook foods on your grill safely.
These are just a few ways to get prepared for an emergency. If you aren’t already prepared, start utilizing this tips before it happens to you.
