I am proud to announce that I have been selected for the U by Kotex Tween Ambassador Program! As a mother of a pre-teen daughter who is 12 and being an aunt of a 13 year old niece, I was very excited to be picked for this program. My Niece is just like my daughter. Her and my son is only 3 months apart so we have always had a close bond.
When I was younger my mom never really prepared me for all the things girls go through. I started my period for the first time in 5th grade! Luckily I had an older sister and friends that was there to help and talk to me about all those IMPORTANT Issues that my mom felt was “embarrassing” to talk to me about. I always knew when I had a kids I was not going to be that type of mom. I wanted my kids to feel like they could talk to be about EVERYTHING! I am so thankful that we do have that kind of relationship. I often over hear my kids telling their friends I am a cool mom and that if they need to ask or talk to me they can. It makes me feel happy that they know I am always here to listen and educate them.
As a parent I think it’s important for us to be the ones to educate our children. Let’s be honest nobody has your child’s best interest like you do. Sure some topics can be a little hard to talk about because you still see your child as your baby. Trust me I know!
Over the next six months I will be sharing my experience so hopefully it will help you talk to your daughter when the time is right. If you think it might be time for your daughter to start her period please have that talk before the “BIG DAY” and be sure to check out The FIRST PERIOD TALK on Kotex website for resources and ideas. Also, make sure your prepared with the right products. Kotex recently introduced new pads with heavy flow absorbency in a smaller size than their regular pads, for younger girls. U by Kotex Tween pads come in vibrant colors and patterns, have a special cover to ensure they stay dry, plus an absorbent core to lock fluid away and help prevent leaks.
So my Question for the day is…Have you talked to your daughter yet about periods? Did your mom prepare you for that “big day”?
*I wrote this review while participating in a Brand Ambassador Campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of U by Kotex Tween and received products to facilitate my post and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate*

My daughter is 10 and I have talked to her about them, although I am sure she won’t start for a few more years, she says she cannot wait for menopause, so she don’t have them no more! LOL and she hasn’t even had one. pfft kids are so funny.

LOL Sounds like Jas. But you know girls are starting sooner these days. I still don’t know whats going on with Jasmine’s . She spotted a couple of times and that was it! But the Dr. said its normal so who knows.
My girls are now “veterans” in the having a monthly cycle department. I did start talking about it very early because I started so young. I wanted to make sure they were well prepared. Back in the day, my mother refused to talk about that stuff. Nowadays, girls are starting even earlier so I think hearing about it from mom is very important! Congrats on becoming an Ambassador for Kotex 🙂
I know right Shelly! I used to thank it was just MY MOM! LOL I am glad to see moms NOW talking about it!
