I am so proud of my princess! Today was our award day! we officially have only 2 more days till summer break!! She won the one and only 1st grade’s Young Georgia Authors Competition award at her school! The annual Young Georgia Authors (YGA) Writing Competition is a state-wide contest that inspires Georgia students of all ages to create original works from any genre, whether in the form of a poem, a newspaper article, a short story, a research project, or any other kind of writing the student enjoys. The student’s writing is first judged within his or her own school system or district, and all first place grade level winners are then submitted to the Georgia Department of Education. The first place system writings are grouped according to grade level and RESA district. Finally, a panel of judges from across Georgia meets to determine the first place grade level winners for each RESA district as well as the first place grade level winners for the state.
She didn’t win district this year. However, I’ll take school wide any day! Jada loves to write so we always have next year! She also got a few other great awards including the Principal award! We had a great teacher this year that actually loves her job so that made this another GREAT YEAR!
GREAT TEACHERS+INVOLVED Parents= successful students! Parents please be active in your children’s schools. When we work as a team the sky is the limit. Don’t except your teacher to do everything! Education starts in the home. Even though it’s summer keep your kids engaged, learning and especially reading. Jada will be in the 2nd grade this year but is reading on 5th grade level. She is also above grade level in math! She loves playing math games for 4th grade online. I can’t stress enough how important it is to make you child do extra through out the year. It’s time to stop blaming our failing school systems and take some of that blame ourselves! There is so many online educational games that can be fun, but also help your child learn and advance during break.

Way to go! I’m so proud of her.
