Let’s face it marriage takes a lot of hard work. It’s not all fun and games like we see in TV or often dream about. Just like anything you will have your good times and bad times. As I get older I am learning to appreciate my husband and marriage even more. I admit we still have those days that he drives me crazy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
That’s why I can’t wait till “Hope Springs” opens in theaters August 10th! Since my 15th anniversary is August 9h this will be our “movie” for the weekend. We really don’t go to the movies often but this is one that we will be seeing in the theater. After watching the official movie trailer it had me thinking about what my best and worst anniversary gift was. The funny thing is as we get older I can totally relate when Kay (Meryl Streep) and Arnold (Tommy Lee Jones) was asked what they got each other for their anniversary and she responded with “a cable subscription”. It reminded me of that time we decided to forgo individual gifts and bought our new big screen for the bedroom!!!!
I remember when my husband would go all out for our anniversary, and then it slowly started going downhill! I know it’s the thought that counts but there have been a few times I am left to question the thought!? However, my worst gift by far had to be the year my lovely husband was out of town on a business trip and FORGOT our anniversary!! Of course he tried to play it off by sending me a stupid E-gift card and greeting card later on that night! But, by that time I was so mad it wouldn’t have mattered what he got. I STILL WOULD HAVE HATED IT! Then to add more insult I got flowers the NEXT DAY! I am sorry but MEN there are no excuse to forget your anniversary EVER! This is one of those dates you know like you do your own birthday! Plus it should be on every calendar you own!

Thankfully, he learned from that mistake! The next year he went all out and made me feel like the queen I am. Looking back over the years I still think my favorite gift was the year our son was born. He was only 9 months old and being my first child I still never had left him longer then overnight. However, my husband knew we needed alone time. He arranged for a weekend getaway. He even had the baby sitter lined up and bags packed! It was a total surprise and well needed. Everything was perfect and it allowed us time to spend some quality time with each other and catch up on some much needed rest.
Sometimes we get so busy with the kids and work we often ignore our marriage. I know I am guilty of this. We get in a comfort zone and stop doing what we used to keep the sparks going. However this summer we will be able to watch how these 2 in “Hope Springs” re-ignite the spark that caused them to fall for each other in the first place. Sony Pictures Presents “Hope Springs”, A new comedy from the director of “The Devil Wears Prada” starring Meryl Streep, Tommy Lee Jones, and Steve Carell. Now that I have told you my best and worst Anniversary Gift, It’s only fair that you tell me yours!!
