The busy Holiday season is here!! The countdown is on and if you’re like me, you’re rushing to beat the deadline!   Everyone loves Christmas, but the biggest complaint I hear is, “It gets so hectic.” It’s still the favorite season for most of us, but we do get tired. We still have to make a living; we still have to maintain our daily lives and then we add shopping for gifts, wrapping the gifts, decorating, entertaining or attending parties and possibly baking.   43. We do as much of our shopping on line as we can during the week before heading out to do shopping at the mall. Some things we buy on line, but alot of the time we are “window” shopping on line, then we know what items we want to check out or buy when we go to the mall. Saves time.

  75. If you are very busy and don’t have time to wrap presents, using gift bags are an option. I stocked up on gift bags last year during the after Christmas sales.

  77. Tip: Take advantage of the early and late hours of the stores and shop when there’s less crowds.

  95. I save time by sending ecards instead of paper cards via snail mail. It saves paper, the cost of mailing, and the time of filling out cards and going to the post office.

  100. We give back this holiday season by donating the kids old toys and clothes to Goodwill. I also have the kids donate change any time their is a bell ringer in front of the stores this season.

    My suggestion is to shop on the weekdays, not weekends, if possible. The weekends its much more busy at the mall, with longer lines, plus the extra time to find a parking space.

  114. I suggest purchasing from a website that sells a wide variety of items, such as amazon. That way it saves the time of bouncing from site to site to search for gifts.

  175. I get back time by doing a lot of shopping on-line. And its not just a guy thing. Saves a ton of time without the hassels. Also an early riser with a lot of things done prior to family wakeing up.

I get back time during the holiday season by waking up a little earlier and staying up later, cutting way back on the amount of TV I watch, doing most or all of my shopping online instead of going to stores and waiting in line, and taking time to cook meals and plan for parties well ahead of time to conserve time later on.   184. I concentrate on the parts of the holidays I like best – parties, sending cards, and looking at pretty lights. I skip exchanging gifts since no one in my family needs anything. It saves a lot of time and money.

  186. No matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to get back any time. I get up earlier and earlier and stay up much later than I should, but I never have enough time in the day.

  233. I get back time by keeping things simple. I purchase gifts on sale all year. When there is a party at my house it is a potluck. Decorations are sentimental items that have been around a long time. I take time to make sure pets in the house don’t feel left out.

I keep a list of what I’ve purchased and when Thanksgiving comes around, I pretty much know what I still need to get. I try to start baking (and freezing) cookies and addressing Christmas cards before Thanksgiving.   240. Maybe its cheating, but I save up all 3 of my vacation days for the whole year and take off the first 3 fridays in December. You have no idea how handy it is to have three 3-day weekends in a row!

Instead of wearing myself out by making several trips out to shop for gifts alone, I’ll corral my dh for one day for about 8 hours and we “power-shop”, but with a well thought out list of course! We stop for a nice lunch together, and at the end of the day, go and buy our Christmas tree. Of course we are “empty nesters,” could never have done this when our kids were little!

The internet saves me tons of time – whether it’s by shopping from the comfort of my home and avoiding the busy stores and slick roads, or by taking care of all of my banking needs without going to the bank itself or calling them, and paying bills is a snap and saves me a trip to the post office, etc, etc!   282. I get to keep my holiday time for spending time with family and friends by purchasing my gifts months in advance. I try not to wait until the last minute or I end up wasting time and money. Most of my gifts are purchased online with free shipping as well so I just have to sit back and wait for the deliveries to show up.

  348. Every year without fail we take the kids shopping to pick out something for Toys 4 Tots or the Salvation Army donation.

  350. Many cookies can be frozen either raw or baked. Mix and/or bake ahead of time to free up time closer to the big days. Cookies thaw quickly.

  359. I get back time over the holidays because we decided no gifts for adults. Each family takes the money that they would have spent on other adults and makes a charitable donation. Everyone feels so much better and they don’t have a closet full of stuff that they don’t need.

Another time saving tip would be to start packing for holiday travels at least a week in advance, and recruit the help of the kids to choose and prepare some of their own snacks and activities to save time. I also try to print all documents, boarding passes, maps, etc., ahead of time, and make lists to organize my thinking. Thanks!

  375. I usually start early and spread things out as much as possible so its just doing a little bit each day. Yes, I love to give cookies and instead of baking in a marathon – a little bit a day – freeze so they stay fresh and then when all done – compile the gifts and distribute!   410. During the holidays I get good at delegating. I have the kids run errands for me (which makes them happy because they like driving!) to give me more time for other things.

  427. I’m finding some extra time this holiday season by inviting friends over to help with baking. It lets me combine visting with friends and making holiday goodies, and it’s always more fun to bake with friends!
