I have loved reading since I was a little girl, I could read for hours on end, and when I started a book I often didn’t put it down until it was finished. Well, I still love to read although I don’t really have the time anymore to sit and read until I finish a book, I still put as much time as I can and often finish a book the same day I start reading it. Anyway, I tend to navigate towards books that tell a story, a personal story, a story that lets you into another person’s life and shares their experiences, hopes and dreams with you. I have found that I can usually find something in their story that connects me with them. I don’t know about you, but I like feeling connected to people.
When I was given the opportunity to read Finding Aster our Ethiopian adoption story I jumped on it. The title alone brought me on board. Something else about me you should know is that I was given up for adoption at birth, and at the age of two, I was very fortunate to be adopted by a wonderful family. My adoptive mother had tried having children of her own biologically but after having my brother all her pregnancies ended up either stillborn or dying on her after a couple hours of birth. That being said, I can honestly say that any story that concerns adoption will usually catch my eye and pierce my heart.
Finding Aster is a beautiful and heart-warming story about a woman (Dina McQueen) who at the age of 38 realizes that if she were to die that she would only regret the fact that she hadn’t had the opportunity to experience motherhood. It’s a story of how she overcomes adversity and personal struggles and ends up full-filling her dream of motherhood.
Take a trip with Dina and her husband as they walk you through their experiences and struggles of becoming parents. Experience the pain and the joys with them, as they embark on a journey so many couples go on, a journey to find a child whom they can love and raise as their very own.
Even if you aren’t looking to adopt a child either through a local in country adoption agency or an international adoption agency, this is a book that will open your eyes to things you may not be aware of. This is a book that I will recommend to anyone needing a good book to sit down with.
