I am sure by Now that you have heard about the MagicJack. I will admit I have heard mix reviews about the product so I was happy to get a chance to review it.  Recently I dropped my landline like many others have because I found myself using my cell for the most part.  There have been times where I still miss my landline but not the monthly bill!!  Comcast Has a good deal on their VOIP phone service for 20.00 per month which I actually signed up for and canceled before they came out to install it.  I really don’t use the phone that much so I couldn’t justify even paying that price.  Instead I signed up for skype.  I will admit I actually like skype but again I am not using it enough to even justify the low monthly price to call out and yearly fee for the number.

If you haven’t Heard MagicJack offers FREE local and long distance calls, FREE call waiting, FREE voicemail, FREE caller ID and lots more! Magic Jack is an extremely small USB telephone adapter that allows you to make phone calls through a regular phone for FREE!. This includes local and long distance calling to the US and Canada. All you have to do is pay a one time fee of $40 to get the Magic Jack USB adapter and then your first year of service is free. After that it costs just $19.95 per year to use their VoIP telephone network.

The Set up was fairly easy and I was up and running in less than 10 minutes.  I really like how easy it was just plug and register.  The Calls seem to be just as clear as Skype.  So Far I am happy with it and it does serve its purpose for what I was looking for.

PROS

Easy-to-use, portable device that allows you to use a standard telephone, corded or cordless, or even a headset/mic combination.

No special equipment software of CD to install is required.

Pay one low upfront cost for the device and their first year of service is included at no additional charge. For one low annual price, magicJack customers receive local and long distance calling to the United States and Canada.  Customers will never see a monthly phone bill.

MagicJack has an actual dedicated telephone network along with interexchange agreements with our peer telecommunications providers. Other VoIP providers lease their entire network from third-party carriers and this may result in higher costs and less reliable networks and call quality.

For a small fee of 10.00 a year  you can get a vanity phone number.

Great for  chatty teens and saves cell phone minutes!

CONS

Your computer must be on and you must have an active Internet connection to be able to place and receive calls

Sometimes the call quality is not that great.  ( the same as with a bad cell phone call)

I have heard that Magic Jack lacks customer support. (I have not had the need for support but I could see that to be a big issue for others.)  I must add that I don’t see why anyone would really need customer support  since the FAQ Goes in really good detail about most common issues.

-if you lose the device, are it breaks your out of luck Unless you can get customer service to replace it!  ( I do think They offer Insurance For this for a fee when you FIRST Register)

Big Turn off for me…I would like it to be at least 30 days from when you have it in your hands.  So I would recommend buying it at a retailer.
