I was given an opportunity to review a child’s book, Summer: The Magic Blanket and I have to admit I wasn’t really sure what to expect. What I got was a pleasant surprise. I found out a little bit about the author and that this book is actually one of four in a series written by Litsa Bolontzakis. Litsa was born in Greece, but she was raised and still resides in Canada. Although she no longer lives in her native Greece she is proud of her heritage and stays connected to Greece through her writings and her blog.
Summer: The Magic Blanket is a book about a young girl who lives in Greece. This young girl spends her summer in and around the ocean, as she lies on her magic blanket she dreams of places far away. The more the young girl spends time at the ocean, the more she begins to realize, understand, and appreciate the value of the ocean. She really enjoys eating watermelon while on her Magic Blanket and her mom softly sings to her. She adores her mother’s voice while she is singing to her and sometimes she even sings along with her mother. One thing that I think seems to be true with a lot of young kids, the young girl definitely doesn’t like her daily nap time, but, her mother does insist that she take a nap every day. The girl also doesn’t like when her body becomes sticky from the salt water nor does she like her hair to be messy, she also doesn’t like being warm while she is sleeping and can’t wait to wake up from her nap each day so she can enjoy more special time on the Magic Blanket.
Summer: The Magic Blanket is a book which teaches children about appreciation, loving life’s special moments, and just plain enjoying and living life to the fullest. The book will give you an opportunity to teach your children about being appreciative. Show them that spending time with family is important. These are lessons that your child will carry with them through adulthood and the rest of their lives. The book is also beautifully illustrated with bright and cheerful pictures. It includes two of the young girl’s favorite recipes, something you can make with your child. It’s not the shortest child’s book I’ve come across, it’s 32 pages, and so I would recommend it for ages 5 and up.
Summer: The Magic Blanket sells for $16.95 and be can be purchased through Amazon.
