As winter starts to fade, we find our minds turning once again to outdoor living, barbeques and relaxing on the patio. But wait! Has neglect throughout the winter months left your patio sad and tired? If so, read on for some top tips to improve your patio’s ambience – or why not forget sprucing up your old patio and get in touch with Additions Building – get them to build you a whole new patio area instead.
Outdoor furniture is exposed to all manner of harsh elements such as wind, rain and hail. It gets treated way more roughly than indoor furniture yet we offer it little to no TLC. Give your wooden furniture a coat of protective oil every now and then. Put new cushions on the sun lounges each year when spring-time rolls around. Small touches can make a big difference to your patio area and if your furniture is looking tired then spend some time rejuvenating it. Or throw it out and upgrade. Any excuse will do.
Use your furniture to create specific areas. For instance, large potted plants can help create natural screens to section off different parts of your garden and patio. Big cushions casually thrown onto a day bed will create a vibe that’s conducive to lounging around while a classic wrought iron table and chairs placed elsewhere (laid with some fun games) will encourage guests to lazily spend some time over a board game or a round of cards. And if you live in a region prone to summer showers or your patio turns into a suntrap during August, you could also invest in patio awnings from Caribbean Blinds to protect you and your guests from the elements, creating an intimate, enclosed space for hot days and cool nights.
A small garden or patio doesn’t necessarily mean small ideas; think laterally and work upwards and outwards – a good trellis system will allow your plants to grow skywards while an espaliered fruit tree will take up very little room. Keep plants from becoming messy and invading your limited space with regular pruning and containment in colourful pots. Don’t forget to consider how you enter your patio, such as refreshing it with french and sliding patio doors on the inside, or new fencing, gates and stairs from the outside.
This could be as simple as throwing some colourful cushions on to your existing furniture, or you could go wild and paint your terracotta pots all manner of magnificent colours. You don’t have to buy expensive garden ornaments; you can make colourful mobiles or create fantastic sculptures with all manner of household items – by making your own decorations, you’ll also add a unique, personal touch to your patio.
An interesting approach is to merge the outside with the inside. By a gradual blending and softening of the space between the patio and the back door, you can create one big area instead of two distinct smaller areas. Bring some plants in from the garden and put some traditionally ‘inside’ objects outside. Make sure that you use objects that you don’t mind becoming weathered. For instance, old egg-cups and ornaments can make interesting garden bed decorations. Plant up an old watering can and put it just inside the back door. Try to blur the lines between your kitchen and your patio – try to see the inside and the outside as one big creative space!

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Piccadilly Restaurants for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Lately, I’ve been on this thing where I have been eating much healthier these days and have become addicted to salads. One of my favorite places to me and my husband love eating them are Piccadilly Restaurants and they have so many different varieties of salads to choose from. Piccadilly Cafeteria first opened in 1932 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Twelve years later, a budding restaurateur by the name of T. H. Hamilton took the reins with hopes of growing the business. Today, there are approximately 60 restaurants and 80 food service locations all across the southeast. Mix and match your tastes at Piccadilly! With their great Homestyle Veggie Plate everyone in your family can pick something different to share. Pick three sides and add your choice of freshly baked bread, all for $5.49. You have a huge selection of sides to choose from candied yams, bettered steamed cabbage, boiled new potatoes, corn and many more items to choose from.

With this being the middle of the summer, we’re still watching our figures and my husband watching his wallet there’s no better place to eat healthy and save money that Piccadilly. No matter what you prefer, Piccadilly will have the side that’s right up your alley with their various sides to choose from. So are you a Southern Belle who always goes for carrot soufflé?? A Yogi Devotee who sticks to broccoli florets? Or an American Classic who fills up on mac and cheese? No matter who you are, you can’t pass up Piccadilly’s Homestyle Veggie Plate! Pick three sides and add your choice of freshly baked bread, all for $5.49. You can even order a family meal also where you can mix and match where everyone can pick something different. After finishing your great meal, they have a variety of divine desserts you will love from peach cobbler, brownies, custard pie, coconut cake and my personal favorite carrot cake.

So what’s your favorite meal when you eat at Piccadilly? What are some of your favorite sides to have when you eat at Piccadilly?

Many people deal with stress on a daily basis, but if your stress has gone beyond the normal levels, or if you don’t know how to cope with it, you could experience anxiety. Anxiety is a very real medical condition that can affect the entire body. It makes you feel as if your heart is racing, your chest hurts, and you can’t breathe. You could even have fits of sobbing uncontrollably or feel like you can’t move. Anxiety can lead to vomiting and other issues that could have you hospitalized if you are not able to control it. If you deal with stress or anxiety and fear both of these may become out of control for you, you can take supplements to help boost your mood.
B Vitamins are already in your body in high levels, but they get depleted easily. Studies have shown that people with low B Vitamin levels suffer from depression, dementia, and other psychological disorders. When your mind is already weakened by this deficiency it’s hard to ward off anxiety attacks. Make sure you take a B Vitamin Complex daily to help with anxiety, depression, and general stress.
Other benefits
B1 reduces feelings of irritability and confusion. B3 helps with insomnia, which can help you better deal with daily stresses. B12 helps produce chemicals that make you happy. B5 makes anti-stress hormones for your body. B Vitamins also help boost energy, which makes you happy and helps you to feel better overall.
Vitamin C regulates cortisol secretion in the body, which is them chemical that is raised in stressful situations. It is most commonly called the “fight or flight” feeling you get when you are stressed out. While this feeling is helpful in extreme situations, it can be harmful if you feel it too often because cortisol is released by your adrenal glands and it can send stress signals throughout your body. Once your body calms down and realizes there is no real danger, you begin to feel weak and shaky. This mental stress can harm your brain, and increased bursts of stress can lead to a heart attack. You can also experience a weakened immune system for secreting too much cortisol, and that leads to not being able to deal with stress, so the cycle continues.
Other Benefits:
Vitamin C is also great for boosting the immune system. For years it has been known as a cold fighting ingredient, and whenever you are ill people tell you to drink plenty of orange juice. It also lowers blood pressure, which is great in keeping stress levels down and protecting your heart. It can also help with cataracts and other vision problems. It can also help with cataracts and other vision problems. Vitamin C can be added to your diet by taking supplements, eating Vitamin C rich foods like citrus fruits, or even by smoking cannabis from cheapweed io due to cannabis leaves being high in Vitamin C.
Vitamin D deficiencies increase anxiety and alter emotional behavior, which is why many people experience Seasonal Depression during winter months when the natural source of Vitamin D- sunlight- is in lower levels. A deficiency of vitamin D also causes people to become emotionally unstable, resulting in mood swings. Vitamin D should be obtained most often through sunlight, but if this is not an option for you then you can take fish oil supplements, vitamin d drops and eat more dairy products.
Other Benefits
Vitamin D is crucial for the maintenance of healthy bones and is essential to the immune system. It also decreases the blood pressure and boosts overall mood.
It isn’t good enough to just take these supplements when you feel stress or anxiety coming on. You should take them daily for their other benefits and to help prevent anxiety attacks. The more of them you can prevent the better you will feel. Generally one you start experiencing an anxiety attack it is too late to completely stop it.
If you want to help keep stress at bay without taking anymore supplements you should get a good, full night of rest. A tired brain and body cannot deal with stress properly, so it will succumb and give in to anxiety attacks. You can also get these supplements in their natural form in foods. Eat the right foods and you will already have healthy levels of these essential vitamins that help keep you calm and your mood happy. Finally, exercise when you can. Studies have shown that when you exercise your brain releases chemicals that make your body and mind feel happy and focused. The best way to cure anxiety is to prevent it from happening in the first place.
